The controversial alimony bill pending in the Florida Senate was vetoed by Governor Rick Scott on May 1, 2013.  The bill would have ended permanent alimony and placed new limits on the amounts of alimony that may be awarded.  The bill would have been retroactive for divorce agreements entered into before July, 2013.  This was one of the most controversial provisions of the bill and also the provision Governor Scott cited in his reasoning for vetoing the bill.

This is an issue that will most likely be raised again.  To read more about the provisions of the bill see our No Future for Permanent Alimony blog and Possible Changes to Timesharing in Florida Laws blog.
