Parents with minor children filing for divorce in Florida are required to take a parenting class before their Final Judgment of Dissolution of Marriage can be obtained.  This requirement is an effort by the Florida legislature to help children better handle the stress of divorce.  This four hour course is designed to educate, train and assist parents in ways to minimize the emotional impact that divorce often has on their children.

The parenting course will also be required in any domestic relations cases involving minor children in issues of separate maintenance, paternity, change of custody or modification of timesharing.  Each parent must take the course.  The Florida Family Law Rules allow for it to be taken either online or in person.  However, judges in some circuits may require that the parenting class be taken in person. Once completed, the participant will receive a certification of completion to be filed with the Clerk of Court.
